A man was killed in a shooting in Meriden on Monday.
Officers responded to the area of Cook Avenue and Summer Street shortly after noon on the report that someone had been shot and found a 22-year-old man suffering from “at least” one gunshot wound, according to Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department.
McKay said officers immediately began performing life-saving measures before medics and fire crews tended to the victim. The man was taken in an ambulance to MidState Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to McKay.
McKay said police notified the victim’s family but are not yet releasing the man’s identity.
“The Meriden Police Department extends its sincerest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones,” McKay said in a statement.
The police department’s Detective Division is investigating the shooting.
“At this time, investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public,” McKay said.
