An 83-year-old man died after the ATV he was operating, which had a snow plow attached to it, plunged off an 8-foot retaining wall and flipped over, police said.

Southington Police Department officers went to a home on Mandel Drive after receiving a report that an unresponsive man was found next to the ATV Saturday morning, police said.

The officers found the man, identified as Andrew Connolly, 83, but he was unresponsive, police said. Lifesaving measures were undertaken but Connolly was then pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the preliminary investigation shows Connolly was operating the ATV and that it plunged off the retaining wall and turned over. The 8-foot wall runs along a driveway, police said.

Connecticut was hit with a snowstorm that dumped various amounts in towns across the state late Friday and into Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information is asked to call Officer Jacob Badgley at 860-621-0101.
