A man has been found guilty of going into a woman’s home in Shelton in violation of a judge’s order.

Francisco Cabassa, 43, of New Haven was found guilty of three counts of interfering with an officer, two counts of violation of a protective order and single count each of sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.

The verdict was handed down on Jan. 9 following a jury trial in Derby Superior Court.

DCJ officials said the evidence presented at trial showed that Cabassa entered a woman’s home in the nighttime hours on Nov. 18, 2024, despite a protective order that was in place. Officials said he “tussled” with the woman and stole her phone.

When officers responded to the home, Cabassa was involved in a “long struggle” with police, according to the DCJ. Once he was taken to the lockup area of the police department, Cabassa flooded part of the building when he blocked the toilet in his cell, according to officials.

Cabassa is being held on a $750,000 bond while he awaits sentencing, which is scheduled for March 9.
