National Weather Service issues freezing rain advisory for CT. What to know.

Freezing rain is expected tonight in parts of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service.

The service issued a winter weather advisory beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting through 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The service noted that this includes most locations along the I-95 corridor, which are expected to  experience a light glace of ice, though locations across “interior southern New England may see ice accumulation between 0.1 inch and 0.2 inch.

The advisory is for portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern, northeastern, southeastern, and western Massachusetts, and northern Rhode Island.

“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Difficult travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes,” the service said.

“Slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.”

Tuesday is expected to remain cloudy, with a high temperature of 36. Rain is likely, mainly between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. with the chance of precipitation at 70%. On Wednesday, there is a chance of freezing rain before 7 a.m., then a chance of rain between 7 a.m. and noon, according to the service. The chance of precipitation in northern Connecticut is 90%.
