Police are investigating a robbery at a bank in Berlin on New Year’s Eve.

Officers responded to Webster Bank at 40 Webster Square Road on Dec. 31 shortly after 10 a.m. and learned that a man entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money, according to Dep. Chief Drew Gallupe of the Berlin Police Department.

The man allegedly threatened to use a firearm, Gallupe said. He was seen leaving the area in a gray 2020 Cadillac CT6 with Connecticut license plate L01333L, according to Gallupe.

The man was described as standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 240 pounds. Police released photos of a suspect and the vehicle.

Gallupe said the police department’s Investigations Division is investigating with assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement partners. He said investigators have carried out two search and seizure warrants in connection with the investigation at a residence in North Haven and a “suspect vehicle” in the same town.

According to the North Haven Police Department, the warrants were carried out the same day as the robbery along Route 5, drawing a heavy police presence.

“The public was not at risk, and we do not comment or publicize other agencies’ investigations until it is safe for us to do so,” the department wrote in a statement.

The robbery remains under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Detective Chaffee at 860-828-7193 or [email protected].
