A Waterbury man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for trafficking narcotics shortly after he was released from federal prison in connection with a conviction on a firearm and ammunition charge.

Raekwon Overstreet, 30, appeared Monday in federal court in New Haven where U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden sentenced him to 125 months in prison and three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Federal officials said Overstreet was released from federal prison in June 2022 after he was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release during a hearing in February 2020. That sentence was handed down in connection with an unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition charge.

Shortly after his release, members of the Waterbury Police Department began investigating Overstreet and others, including his cousin Tyreese Ferrucci, for allegedly trafficking narcotics, according to officials. Overstreet was arrested on Oct. 5, 2022, the same day investigators searched his Aetna Street residence.

During the search, officials reported finding more than 2,000 baggies of fentanyl/heroin, an unspecified quantity of crack cocaine, a loaded firearm, ammunition, narcotics paraphernalia and $5,575, officials said. Authorities also searched a location on Fieldwood Road in Waterbury that Overstreet, Ferrucci and others allegedly used to store narcotics. There, authorities arrested Ferrucci when he was found with two loaded handguns, officials said.

The search allegedly turned up about 1,200 baggies of fentanyl/heroin, a quantity of crack cocaine, narcotics paraphernalia, ammunition and $2,120.

Overstreet, who has been detained since his arrest, took a plea deal on July 30, pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Federal officials also said he violated the terms of his release.

Ferrucci pleaded guilty to possession of firearms by a felon and was sentenced to 63 months in prison during a hearing on Dec. 5.
