An 18-year-old was killed in a crash in Stratford on Sunday after state police said he lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a rock wall, injuring a second teen who was a passenger.

The crash occurred on Route 15 South just before midnight when troopers responded to the area of Exit 36 on the report of a serious collision, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said 18-year-old Valentin Junior Collazo of Thomaston was driving a 2010 Mazda 3i in the left lane when he lost control of the car and veered to the right, entering the shoulder where the vehicle began sliding sideways. The Mazda then crossed the grassy gore area of the Exit 36 entrance ramp and traveled across the ramp before the driver side of the vehicle hit a rock wall, according to state police.

Collazo was given CPR at the scene and was taken in an ambulance to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, state police said.

A 17-year-old Plymouth girl who was a passenger in the Mazda was taken to the same hospital and treated for injuries suspected to be minor, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Luis Morales at [email protected].
