A Colchester man was arrested this week after investigators allegedly found him with more than 1,000 files containing child sexual abuse materials.

Jason Cenotti, 27, was arrested Monday and charged with one count of first-degree possession of child pornography, according to Connecticut State Police.

The investigation began after state police in July 2024 and April of this year received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children suggesting a certain IP address had shared child sexual abuse material, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. Police reviewed 26 images and videos associated with the cyber tips and found that 19 of them met the criteria of child porn, the warrant affidavit said. The content showed children who appeared as young as 6 years old engaged in sexual acts, according to the warrant affidavit.

With assistance from the Department of Homeland Security, state police said they were able to link the IP address to a home in Colchester, according to the warrant affidavit. Cenotti was identified as a possible resident there, state police wrote.

Investigators obtained search warrants for Cenotti and the residence, which were carried out on June 25, the warrant affidavit said. Cenotti was found in his bedroom in the basement of the home.

During the search, state police said Cenotti allegedly admitted to investigators that he would use the Kik Messenger app to find “not the greatest stuff,” the warrant affidavit said. He allegedly said he has seen pornography involving children on the app and that some of it was saved to his phone, according to the warrant affidavit.

Cenotti alleged that he would feel bad after downloading the content and would typically later delete it, the warrant affidavit said. He allegedly told police he “honestly did not know” why he sought out the abusive materials, according to the warrant affidavit. He allegedly said he would most commonly look for girls between 7 and 12 years old, state police wrote.

State police investigators seized four cell phones during the search and turned them over to the state of Connecticut Division of Scientific Services for forensic examination.

The examination allegedly found child sexual abuse materials on all four phones, turning up a total of 1,202 files considered child sexual abuse materials, according to the warrant affidavit.

Cenotti appeared in Norwich Superior Court on Monday. A judge continued the case to Jan. 15, 2026, court records show.

Cenotti, who is being held on a $100,000 bond, has not entered a plea, court records show.
