Two people are in critical condition after the vehicle they were in collided with a tractor-trailer in Bridgeport on Tuesday.

The crash occurred at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Housatonic Avenue just before 4:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police Department.

Wilson said a preliminary investigation, conducted by the Bridgeport Police Reconstruction Team, found that a silver four-door sedan was being driven west on North Washington Avenue by a 32-year-old Bridgeport man when it collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer parked in the westbound lane. The driver and a passenger, a 31-year-old Bridgeport man, were both seriously injured, according to Wilson.

The driver was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, and the passenger was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Wilson said. They were each listed in critical condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 61-year-old New York man, was not injured, Wilson said. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The crash is still being investigated. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Rory Anderson at 203-576-7640 or [email protected].
