Police are investigating an attempted pickup of a girl who had just gotten off a school bus in Bristol on Wednesday.
The incident was reported just before 3:30 p.m. when a girl was dropped off on High Street near Bellevue Avenue, according to the Bristol Police Department.
When she got off the bus, police said, the girl was approached by a person in a small black SUV who rolled down their window just enough to speak to her, asking “Do you need a ride?” The girl did not get a good look at the individual.
According to police, the girl said “no” and walked down a shared driveway. Police said the motorist turned into the driveway and followed her.
The girl then ran away, causing the driver to leave the area, according to police.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage in the area and found that the driver of a small black SUV — about the same size as a Toyota RAV4 — approached the girl and began following her, police said.
Police are asking witnesses or anyone in the area with surveillance video that may have captured the vehicle to contact Det. Christopher Dudzikowski at [email protected] or 860 314-4569.
“While this matter is still under investigation, we encourage parents to have conversations with their children about being safe and aware of their surroundings,” Lt. Patrick Krajewski said in a statement.
