A four-car crash on Interstate 84 in East Hartford on Wednesday left one person dead after his vehicle rolled over during a series of collisions.

John Henry Farrell, 39, of East Hartford was taken to Hartford Hospital and pronounced dead following the crash, which was reported on the westbound side of the highway prior to Exit 55 around 7:45 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police.

No other injuries were reported.

State police said the series of crashes occurred as Farrell was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 alongside a 2009 Honda CR-V being driven by a 39-year-old New Haven man. After the two cars collided, state police said the Mazda went into a rollover and came to rest in the left center lane.

The Honda then collided with a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 2019 Ford F150 which were both headed west, according to state police. The Honda then settled in the left center lane.

The driver of the Honda and a 36-year-old woman inside did not report any injuries, state police said.

The Hyundai and the Ford stopped in the center lane, state police said. Neither driver reported being injured, according to state police.

All four vehicles had to be towed away.

The crash remains under investigation. Witnesses to the collisions or drivers who were in the area with dashboard camera footage have been asked to contact Trooper Christopher Shayler at 860-534-1098 or [email protected].
