Mark Leiter Jr. has found a new home.
The reliever, non-tendered by the Yankees earlier this offseason, has agreed to a deal with the Athletics, according to multiple reports. The deal, still pending a physical, is for one year and will pay Leiter about $3 million, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Leiter was projected to earn $3 million in arbitration this winter before the Yankees made the right-hander a free agent. Initially acquired by New York from the Cubs before the 2024 trade deadline, Leiter posted a 4.89 ERA over 80 total games for the Bombers.
That includes a 4.84 ERA over 59 games in 2025. Some bad luck hurt the pitcher — Leiter’s .374 BABIP was the second-highest of any pitcher (min 40 IP), and he fractured his leg midseason while covering first base — but he struck out just 24.7% of the batters he faced this past season after recording a 33.6% clip in 2024.
Leiter shined for the Yankees in the 2024 playoffs, allowing one earned run over six appearances between the ALCS and World Series, but he was excluded from the team’s postseason rosters this year.
Leiter has a 4.60 ERA over 270 career games. His uncle, Al, and father also briefly played for the Yankees, and he is the cousin of Rangers starter Lack Leiter.
