Jeff Garcia, a comedian and voice actor known for the “Jimmy Neutron franchise,” has died at age 50.
Garcia was hospitalized on Tuesday in Southern California, but was taken off life support later that night before dying early Wednesday morning, his family members told TMZ.
The outlet reported that Garcia had suffered from multiple health complications in the months prior to his death, including a brain aneurysm which led to him falling and hitting his head in the spring. He reportedly then suffered a stroke several weeks ago while still recovering.
The California native was hospitalized with pneumonia in November but discharged after improving. He returned to the hospital on Monday with difficulty breathing and his lung collapsed on Tuesday, sources said.
An official cause of death has not been released.
“My father was a unique soul. He was unapologetically himself and I will always admire the love, compassion and drive that he had,” son Jojo Garcia captioned a series of photos in Instagram. “The talent my father possessed was truly one of a kind. From voice acting to stand up comedy, he shined with his quick wit, brash humor and charm.”
Garcia voiced Sheen Estevez in the animated franchise, which began as the movie “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” before becoming a Nickelodeon show, “Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.” The character was also spun off for the series “Planet Sheen.”
He also voice characters in the films “Rio,” “Happy Feet” and “Barnyard,” and the latter’s TV sequel series “Back to the Barnyard.” He appeared onscreen in the sitcom “Mr. Box Office” with Bill Bellamy, Jon Lovitz and Tim Meadows, and was most recently seen in an October episode of CBS late-night show “Comics Unleashed.”
