Police have identified the human remains located in a house in Stamford following an hours-long standoff that resulted in the homeowner dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Stamford Police Department‘s Hostage Negotiation Team and Special Response Team responded to a residence on Oaklawn Avenue on Dec. 2 in connection with an eviction complaint, which escalated into an incident involving a barricaded man, according to police reports.
The Hostage Negotiation Team and Special Response Team had communications with the homeowner, identified as 63-year-old Jed Parkington, multiple times over the course of a several hours, police said.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home and an arrest warrant for the man they believe was barricaded inside, Shaw said. As police approached the home, the man opened fire on two BearCat vehicles used by police, striking the windshield and other parts of the vehicle, according to police.

During the course of the standoff, the man continued to exchange gunfire with officers. At one point, officers heard a single gunshot and later sent a drone into the home, where they saw Parkington and found explosives throughout the residence, police said.
As the bomb squad entered the home, human remains were discovered in a room across the hallway from where Parkington’s body was located, according to police.
When emergency medical personnel were able to safely enter the home, they confirmed that Parkington and the other individual were dead, police said.
Upon completion of the scene processing by the Connecticut State Police, the body of the unidentified individual was removed from the residence and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, according to police.
The Office of the Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on human remains and determined the cause of death to be “blunt impact injuries of head and torso with gagging” and the manner of death to be a homicide, police said.
According to police, the individual has been identified as 79-year-old Carmine Boccuzzi. His identity was determined using a DNA comparison with a family member, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to police. Additional information will be released “as it becomes available and when appropriate to do so,” police said.
