Just before dawn Sunday, a tragic head‑on crash on State Highway 302 near FM 181 in Ector County claimed the lives of two men and left three others fighting for their lives. The collision occurred around 4:45 a.m., when a 2014 Ford F‑150 reportedly traveled the wrong way — westbound in the eastbound lanes — and smashed into an eastbound 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

The impact was brutal. Two passengers in the Hyundai — identified as 25‑year-old Sebastian Trevino and 26‑year-old Juan Guerrero — were pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Hyundai, who was wearing a seatbelt, was rushed to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the Ford F‑150 were also transported to the same hospital, each suffering serious injuries.

Details remain sketchy as authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety continue to investigate the cause of the crash. What’s clear: a wrong‑way driver, a doomed highway, and two young lives lost far too soon.

Early witnesses called the aftermath “horrific.” A dented Elantra, mangled steel, broken glass — and a stretch of highway stained by loss. Local emergency responders described the scene as chaotic. Two ambulances, flashing lights in the predawn gloom, and paramedics working urgently as first light crept over the West Texas landscape.

Neighbors say Sunday mornings on this stretch of SH‑302 are usually quiet. Some regular commuters described FM 181 as a rural intersection — not one they expected to turn into a scene of tragedy. A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said he woke to sirens and saw “cars pulled over, people crying.”

Families of the victims are reportedly being notified, as community members struggle to grapple with the shock. “They were good kids,” one relative said. “Full of promise.”

Investigators with DPS say they’re combing through evidence — vehicle positions, skid marks, headlight usage, and anything that might explain why the Ford ended up going the wrong way. For now, the crash remains under investigation, and the community remains in mourning.
