Police obtained a warrant charging her with first-degree criminal attempt at assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, negligent storage of a firearm, third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.

Towels is free on a $300,000 bond and is scheduled to face a judge on Dec. 12.

Two nonfatal shooting incidents under investigation in Waterbury

Police were alerted to the shooting around 1:45 a.m. when officers in the area of Grand Street heard what sounded like gunshots, according to Morais. Not long after, police learned that a Waterbury man had checked himself into an area hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen, Morais said. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.

According to Morais, investigators found that the shooting stemmed from an “isolated incident” between two small groups of people. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting remains under investigation by Waterbury detectives. It was one of two shootings reported in the city on Saturday.

During the other, a 37-year-old Waterbury man who suffered gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital around 7:30 p.m., police said. He was shot in the rear of his shoulder and had a graze wound to the back of his head, according to police. The injuries were not life-threatening.

Police later found that the man had been shot during an argument between individuals in the 300 block of Walnut Street.

Anyone with information on either shooting has been asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 203-574-6941. Anonymous information can be left with the Crime Stoppers at 203-755-1234.
