A crash in Bristol early Thursday took down a utility pole, leaving more than 100 people without power and the road shut down for hours.

The collision was reported on Washington Street around 2:20 a.m. when a crash left a utility pole snapped at the base and dangling by power lines, according to Lt. Christopher Lennon of the Bristol Police Department.

The pole was blocking the road and knocked out power to those in the area. Lennon said Washington Street was closed between Central Street and Garden Street while crews worked to remove the pole and restore power.

According to the Mayor’s Office, the injuries involved in the crash did not appear life-threatening.

Eversource reported more than 100 customers in Bristol were without power early Thursday. By about 7 a.m., the power company said, that number was down to zero.

This is at least the third crash in Bristol involving a utility pole since last week.

According to police, 31-year-old Jonathan Edward Whittle of Bristol was killed following a collision involving a utility pole on Broad Street last Wednesday.

On Friday, 42-year-old James Amayi-Kelley of Andover, Massachusetts hit a pole on Battle Street and was ejected from his vehicle, police said. He was later pronounced dead at Bristol Hospital.
