Two nonfatal shooting incidents under investigation in Waterbury

Police are investigating two unrelated nonfatal shootings in Waterbury over Thanksgiving weekend.

Early Saturday morning, officers were in the area of Grand Street around 1:45 a.m. when they heard what sounded like gunshots, according to the Waterbury Police Department. Shortly after, a man who sustained gunshot wounds
checked himself in at a local hospital.

Police said the victim, a 39-year-old Waterbury man, sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen, which medical staff determined to be non-life-threatening.

According to police, the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident between two small groups of individuals.

Later that day, officers were notified that a victim sustaining gunshot wounds had admitted themselves into a local hospital around 7:30 p.m., police said.

The victim, a 37-year-old Waterbury man, was suffering from several gunshot wounds, one of which grazed the back of his head and another that struck the rear of his shoulder. According to police, the injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. He was listed in stable condition.

Police determined that the incident allegedly stemmed from an argument between individuals on the 300 block of Walnut Street.
