This is to praise the Courant’s columnist, Kevin Rennie on his column covering the sad but amusing behavior of state Republican senators.
For years, these courageous warriors have relentlessly attacked departments and agencies of the state for recklessly squandering taxpayer monies on useless programs. Come to find out that these noble, self-sacrificing legislative leaders were doling out some $180,000 in bonus dollars to their Republican staff members.
This on top of the staff’s six figure incomes all were earning.
Another terrific column documented the total mess created by PURA, an important arm of state government whose decisions affect the electricity bills of every resident in Connecticut including myself. There have been some reporting on the machinations at PURA but none as detailed and as comprehensive as that of Rennie. It is important to note that this is a story he was investigating for months and months. It was only when the state’s judicial system got involved that all of his findings were found valid.
Kevin Rennie has uncovered significant problems that shape how our state government functions or malfunctions. His excellent reporting informs Connecticut citizens, prompting them to take action on matters that directly affect their pocketbook and their lives.
