Parts of Connecticut may see snow on Tuesday, giving the state its first glimpse of winter this season, according to officials.
Following a large winter storm that was to bring snow to much of the Midwest over the weekend, cold air is expected to bring snow across the central Plains, Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic and New England beginning early in the week, according to the National Weather Service.
A few inches of snow are possible in northwestern Connecticut on Tuesday, weather officials said. A mix of cold rain and some possible snowflakes will likely impact the shoreline through Tuesday. Much of inland Connecticut is expected to see some snow Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service’s New York Office said it “is too difficult this far out to mention snowfall totals.”
The NWS says there is a high chance for snowflakes and freezing rain to fall before noon on Tuesday, then a chance of rain and snow between noon and 1 p.m., then rain again after 1pm for much of the state.
The National Weather Service is predicting a wet mix of rain and snow Tuesday morning, which could make for a messy commute, according to officials.
Tuesday will be chilly, with a high near 38 degrees and winds around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Leading up to Tuesday, the state will see chilly temperatures, according to the NWS. On Sunday, temperatures will remain near 47 degrees with gusty winds as high as 22 mph. There is a high chance of showers throughout the day on Sunday.
Monday will see mostly sunshine and high temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
The rest of the week, after Tuesday’s snow event, will see mostly sunny weather, with chilly temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
