A Waterbury man has been arrested after crashing his car and jumping down a 32-foot drop in an attempt to evade police.
Dayshaun Anthony Nolberto, 30, is facing several charges including interfering with an officer, possession of more than one half ounce of cannabis, engaging the police in pursuit, operation of a vehicle with a suspended license, insufficient insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, failure to obey traffic signal, failure to drive in proper lane, driving the wrong way in a one-way, according to the Waterbury Police Department.
As officers were working traffic enforcement around 4:25 p.m. on Friday in an effort to improve road safety, police said a red Honda CR-V bearing a fraudulent marker plate was spotted in the area of West Main Street and State Street.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Nolberto allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed, according to police. Officers did not further pursue his vehicle out of public safety concerns. Officers then observed him losing control and striking a street sign.
Nolberto then exited his Honda and allegedly gave chase on foot before being apprehended, police said. During the chase, he jumped down a 32-foot drop, police said.
Nolberto was later transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his legs, according to police.
In addition to the charges, police said Nolberto had several outstanding warrants.
