A man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl into Hartford.
Jairo Abreu, 33, of Danbury was sentenced to 30 months in prison followed by a year of supervised release during a hearing Wednesday in federal court in Bridgeport, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
The hearing came after he struck a plea deal in April 2024 and pleaded guilty to trafficking fentanyl, federal officials said.
Abreu was identified as a drug trafficker in Hartford during an investigation conducted by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and the Hartford Police Department, according to officials. He was arrested on state charges in October 2023
Following the arrest, a search of Abreu’s residence turned up about 2.8 kilograms of fentanyl as well as about 2,000 wax sleeves of fentanyl, federal officials said.
Abreu is free on a $100,000 bond and is required to report to prison on Jan. 15, 2026.
