There are a few football games of note in Week 11 of the Connecticut high school football season. Some teams have already wrapped up or will wrap up their regular seasons this week before Thanksgiving but some will still have their traditional holiday games next Wednesday or Thursday.
The CIAC playoffs start Dec. 2 with quarterfinal games. Semifinals will be played Dec. 6 and finals Dec. 12-13.
Here are two significant pre-Thanksgiving games on the week’s abbreviated schedule:
Bloomfield (7-2) at Windsor (8-1), Saturday, 1 p.m.: Last year, both of these CCC rivals ended up as runners-up in their respective divisions – Windsor lost a heartbreaker to Masuk, 24-21 in Class MM and Bloomfield lost to Ansonia in Class S. Windsor, which is ranked No. 10 in the Courant state coaches’ poll, had its only loss on Nov. 7 to Southington 28-7, while Bloomfield has won seven straight after dropping its first two games to Ansonia and Berlin, which is undefeated at 9-0. Last week, Windsor quarterback AJ Robinson completed 17 of 23 passes for 301 yards and six touchdowns as the Warriors beat East Hartford, 61-18. Last year in the rivalry game, Windsor beat Bloomfield, 53-28. Currently, Windsor is in second place in Class MM behind No. 1 Wilton and Bloomfield is ranked No. 7 in Class S, right ahead of Ansonia (6-3).
Berlin (9-0) at Middletown (7-2), Friday, 6 p.m.: With a win, Berlin finishes the regular season undefeated. Berlin won this game last year, 26-7 and advanced to the Class M semifinals where the Redcoats lost to Brookfield, 28-0. Middletown started off the season with six straight victories but lost two of its last three games to Wethersfield and South Windsor. Middletown beat Farmington last week, 32-7. The Blue Dragons are currently ranked fourth in Class MM and Berlin is No. 2 in Class M behind St. Joseph (7-2).
