Avelo airlines, which last month announced it was removing all of its flights from Bradley International Airport, now has started nonstop service to Florida’s Key West International Airport from Tweed-New Haven Airport.

Earlier this month, also at Tweed, the budget airline, which said it has 30 nonstop destinations from the New Haven airport, said it had new deal for travelers, on base fares, and offered “20% off + additional exclusive savings for Avelo PLUS members.”

On Thursday, Avelo said it flew an exclusive nonstop service to Florida’s Key West International Airport from Tweed-New Haven Airport, making it the only airline offering nonstop service between the Elm City and Key West.

The airline said it even offered “Key West’s Key Lime Pie” to customers on the flight, through Key Lime tarts from G Cafe Bakery, as well as other “celebratory swag bags.”

Avelo Airlines founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, in an emailed statement, “Avelo’s new nonstop route to the Florida Keys showcases the continued demand for convenient, affordable and industry-leading reliability in Southern Connecticut.

“Likewise, getting to Southern Connecticut and everything the greater New England and New York regions have to offer is now easier than ever for those Key West travelers,” Levy sai. “With over 30 nonstop options, we continue to share Avelo’s low fares and nonstop options with our loyal Connecticut Customers.”

Tweed-New Haven CEO Michael Jones said, “We are pleased to offer the only nonstop service to Key West … in the state for travelers in Southern Connecticut.

“Key West is the gateway to the Florida Keys, offering HVN passengers access to a unique destination renowned for its fishing, diving, arts and culture, history, and cuisine,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming Key West travelers with the blend of convenience and hospitality our airport has become known for.”

The Connecticut Airport Authority late last month was highly critical of the budget carrier for the decision to pull out of Bradley International Airport and that it was especially “disappointed and surprised” about the decision to cancel the state’s only nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

A spokeswoman for Avelo at the time pushed back about the Bradley decision.

“Like all business decisions we make, this exit was made based on facts – the revenues on the market did not cover the costs. Any other insinuation to the contrary is unfortunate, false and uninformed. We remain committed to serving the state of Connecticut through our low fares out of New Haven Tweed airport,” she said at the time.

A spokeswoman for Avelo Airlines also said in October it would be exiting Hartford’s Bradley International Airport after its last scheduled flight on January 25, 2026.  “It is always disappointing to remove flights; however, multiple business factors make this the best decision for the airline’s continued growth.”

In January, the low-cost airline, which had rapidly accelerated its route expansion in Connecticut hit the brakes, initially pulling the plug on three, nonstop destinations from Bradley International Airport, just two months after it began service at Connecticut’s largest commercial airport.
