Police are seeking information about a person or persons who abandoned a pregnant dog that was found tied to a sign in Waterbury while in active labor on Sunday.

Officers were notified about a dog being left tied to a sign and abandoned in the area of Cherry Street around 8:12 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

Officers located a pregnant pit bull who was in labor. Police contacted BARC CT, who took custody of the pit bull and provided emergency treatment. “Regrettably, none of her puppies survived,” police said.

The pit bull is currently in the care of a private foster home and reported to be “healing well,” according to police.

Detectives are conducting an ongoing investigating. A $5,000 reward is being offered by Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates, a non-profit organization, for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for the abuse and abandonment of the dog. They can be contacted by phone at 413-717-8445 or by email at [email protected].

Police are also asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Waterbury detectives at 203-564-6941 or provide an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 203-755-1234.
