A Connecticut man has been charged following an alleged domestic incident that included an attempted sexual assault in Guilford.
The Guilford Police Department on Nov. 5 received an 911 call around 8:35 p.m. that allegedly sounded like someone was “in distress and possibly involved in a domestic violence incident,” according to Lt. Joseph J. Duro of the Guilford Police Department. While listening to the call, the police dispatcher worked with patrol officers to determine the location of the call.
As officers arrived at the scene, they alleged that a domestic violence incident was underway that included an attempted sexual assault, Duro said.
The officers intervened and took 42-year-old Richard Demond of Guilford into custody, according to Duro.
Demond was charged by arrest warrant for criminal attempt to commit first-degree sexual assault, first-degree strangulation, second-degree assault, second-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint, interfering with an emergency call and disorderly conduct, Duro said.
Demond was held on a $250,000 court-set bond and was arraigned at New Haven Superior Court onWednesday.
According to Duro, the Guilford Police Department worked on the investigation in conjunction with the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office “We want to thank them for their assistance,” Duro said. “The Guilford Police Department would also like to thank Guilford Youth and Family Services for our collaborative working relationship with the Guilford Police social worker.”
Duro also noted that CT Safe Connect provides resources for survivors of domestic violence who are seeking services. “If you need help or just someone to talk to, visit CTSafeConnect.org or call or text 1-888-774-2900,” he said. “Advocates are available 24/7.
