A man was arrested on a DUI charge on Sunday evening when police say he backed into the glass door of a Thai restaurant in South Windsor before trying to leave and getting stuck in a ditch.
David M. Lanier, 34, of South Windsor has been charged with unsafe backing and operating under the influence, according to Lt. Mark Cleverdon of the South Windsor Police Department.
Cleverdon said officers responded to the parking lot of Sawadee Thai Cuisine Restaurant at 465 Buckland Road around 6:30 p.m. on the report that a driver had backed into the front glass door of the building. The motorist then allegedly tried to leave and got stuck in a ditch, according to Cleverdon.
Responding officers identified the driver as Lanier and suspected that he had been drinking alcohol, Cleverdon said. He failed multiple field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Lanier was later released on a $2,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Nov. 24.
