Police have arrested a man who allegedly jumped on the hood of a police cruiser when an officer interrupted a street takeover in Ansonia in April.
Joseph Yeager, 21, of Meriden was arrested on Wednesday on a warrant charging him with first-degree riot, conspiracy to commit first-degree riot, second-degree breach of peace and racing, according to Lt. Patrick Lynch of the Ansonia Police Department.
Lynch said it marks the fifth arrest in connection with a street takeover on April 26 on Wakelee Avenue. Police previously said an officer who responded to the incident found between 50 to 100 people in the street along with several dozen cars on the road, some of which were being driven erratically, and fireworks that were being set off.
Video released from the cruiser’s dashboard camera shows a number of individuals surrounding the front of the vehicle and following it as the officer backed up. Many of the individuals, including some concealing their faces with masks and hoods, appeared to be filming the cruiser with cell phones.
On the video, one person can be seen jumping on the hood of the cruiser for a moment. Another tossed a traffic cone into the vehicle’s windshield, damaging it.
According to Lynch, investigators believe Yeager was the individual who jumped on top of the hood of the cruiser.
Yeager was held on a $100,000 bond pending an arraignment hearing in Derby Superior Court. Court records reviewed Friday said he remains in custody and is due back in court on Nov. 25. He did not enter a plea during the hearing, records show.
